Back in Blackout Poetry is a hands on session for English Language Arts teachers to engage students on a rockstar level! Students will tap into a creative part of their brain and also connect their understanding of a novel, article or any piece of text. Using the pages of an existing text, blackout poets isolate then piece together single words or short phrases from these texts to create lyrical masterpieces. Once these masterpieces have been made, they will use Google Docs to save their art piece and explain their “poem.” When the Google Doc has been created students will then share their work via Twitter, class Instagram pages and/or Google Classroom to make the lesson multimodal. Back in Blackout Poetry will give your students a chance to be lyrical geniuses or create poetry that even TuPac would envy.
